A Seat by the Window follows Ryan, a successful man in his 30s who has done everything “right,” but still feels emotionally detached from himself and others. As he moves through adulthood, a childhood memory of being isolated in a public library continues to shape how he sees himself and the world.

The film has an emotionally intimate tone; it lets the audience sit with Ryan and witness his inner life. His discomfort mirrors experiences of people who spend their lives doing what is expected of them and only much later begin to feel the void underneath. This is especially true in immigrant families, where second-generation children feel the pressure to turn their parents’ sacrifices into visible accomplishment. The tension between gratitude and obligation, being loved and feeling unseen, is what the film aims to touch. It further explores emotional isolation and the difficulty of naming loneliness, even when life appears outwardly “successful.”
